I have always been a writer. I was born to be a writer. The past few years I have worked on improving my mental health and making space for things that are important to me.
Prioritizing
Writing is something that I have started to make more of a priority. In 2016 I began writing for the Odyssey and also spent some time as the Editor-in-Chief of the Grace College community. After the infrastructure of the Odyssey was drastically changed, I left but continued to write on my blog and in my personal life.
Poetry
A month or two ago I saw an advertisement for Button Poetry’s Chapbook Competition. I have not consistently written poetry since my senior year of high school (so four-ish years) so I brushed it aside. My mind could not let go of the thought of publishing a book of poetry.
So after buying and reading a stack of poetry books (when I say a stack, I do mean like ten), writing poems upon poems, vulnerably asking for feedback, and a lot of editing, I am almost done with my entry. I feel so energized and excited by this that I know that I’ll be continuing to write poetry and pursue competitions and publishing so I’ve decided to make 2018 the year of poetry.
Join Me
In 2018 I am inviting you on this journey with me. My goal is to be more active on my blog. I would like to publish one or two posts about poetry a month and cover other topics as well!
Some poetry posts that I have planned for this year are:
- Inspiring Poetry Books
- Writing and Perfectionism
- Quotes about Poetry
- The Impact of Poetry on Me Personally
- Poetry Competitions
- Poetry and Mental Health
- Inspiration in Classic Poetry
- Sharing Poetry that You’ve Written
- Good Writers are Good Readers
- Finding Inspiration to Write Poetry
- Tools for Writing Poetry
- Tuning out the Haters
- Favorite Poetry Videos
- Reading Resources
And more. I also want to share some poetry that I have written. If you want to be on my email list and get new posts in your inbox, sign up in the form at the bottom of this post!
Thank you for being one of my readers and allowing me to share part of my heart.
