In November I had the honor of being published by Fathom Magazine. I pitched my idea to them and they asked me to write the article so it could be published in November’s issue about death. The topic? Struggling with suicidal ideation and relating to Biblical lament.
I’ve written on The Lord is My Teacher before about my chronic struggle with mental illnesses. You can find the latest post with my story here. A few years ago a friend encouraged me to read a specific Psalm of Lament and it forever changed my relationship with God.
An author in the Bible verbalized the thoughts that I could barely acknowledge to myself.

For too many years I had tried to come to God with a put together facade. The honesty I saw in the Psalms of lament encouraged me to try a different approach.
Finally, I was seeing that people in the Bible struggled with mental illnesses, that even these men and women experienced trauma and felt deep pain. The difference between me and them was that they were honest with God about it.
